Memo: Is Peroxynitrite a Mediator of Survival and Aggressive Growth in Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma?

چکیده

There are a number of reports that NADPH oxidase activity is elevated in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAs), or cell lines derived therefrom, and that the resultant production of superoxide protects the cancer from apoptosis. Recently, Du and colleagues have reported that oncogenic mutants of K-Ras – expressed in over 90% of such cancers – promote NADPH oxidase activity via induction of Nox2. In other PDA cell lines, Nox2 has not been detected, but other isoforms of NADPH oxidase, such as Nox4, are expressed. Growth factors for PDAs have been shown to boost their NADPH oxidase activity.

Sp1, a new biomarker that identifies a subset of aggressive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Sp1 is a sequence-specific DNA binding protein that is important in the transcription of a number of regulatory genes involved in cancer cell growth, differentiation, and metastasis. In this study, we investigated Sp1 expression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and its association with clini...

βIII-Tubulin: A novel mediator of chemoresistance and metastases in pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Western societies. This poor prognosis is due to chemotherapeutic drug resistance and metastatic spread. Evidence suggests that microtubule proteins namely, β-tubulins are dysregulated in tumor cells and are involved in regulating chemosensitivity. However, the role of β-tubulins in pancreatic cancer are unknown. We measured the e...

PRIMARY PANCREATIC LYMPHOMA: A CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW

Primary pancreatic lymphoma is a rare extranodal manifestation of any histopathologic subtype of B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that predominantly involves the pancreas. It comprises less than 0.2% of pancreatic malignancies and less than 0.7% of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. This lymphoma is almost never suspected clinically. It is usually diagnosed by surgical exploration for suspected adenoca...
